Anthropic makes Claude Sonnet 5's lower pricing permanent

In an August 10, 2026 update to the Sonnet 5 announcement, Anthropic stated that the model's introductory pricing of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens is now permanent. The scheduled September 1 increase to $3/$15 will not take effect.

Why it matters

Introductory API pricing usually expires. Making it permanent holds Sonnet 5 at a third below the rate teams were told to budget for from September, which changes the arithmetic on anything running at volume.
