GitHub adds user attribution and configurable capture to Copilot client telemetry
GitHub announced that enterprise administrators can use telemetry in managed settings to attribute GitHub Copilot activity to individual users without collecting prompts, responses, or tool content. A telemetry.capture.identity setting adds three configurable options for identity capture.

Why it matters
Teams running Copilot under managed enterprise settings can track which users generate Copilot activity while controlling how much content is captured, which affects privacy review and compliance setup.
Who should care
Enterprise IT administrators, engineering managers, security and compliance teams using GitHub Copilot
What you can do
Review the telemetry.capture.identity setting in the GitHub changelog and decide which of the three capture options fits your organisation's privacy policy before enabling it.
