GitHub Copilot usage metrics API now shows names of custom skills, agents, and MCP servers
GitHub announced that Copilot usage metrics now list the names of skills, custom agents, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, slash commands, and plugins that an organization creates. Previously these were grouped under a generic category.

Why it matters
Organizations can see which of their own custom Copilot components are actually being used, rather than seeing them lumped together. This makes it possible to measure adoption of internal tooling and identify unused components.
Who should care
Engineering leads and platform teams managing GitHub Copilot for organizations, developers building custom Copilot skills, agents, or MCP servers.
What you can do
Query the Copilot usage metrics API for your organization and review the per-name breakdown of custom skills, agents, and MCP servers to see which ones are in use.
