GitHub makes global default policy for Copilot features generally available
GitHub announced that a global default policy for generally available GitHub Copilot features and supported client capabilities is now generally available on Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise plans. The rollout is gradual, starting October 22, 2026, following a September announcement of the policy.

Why it matters
Administrators on Copilot Business and Enterprise plans may see Copilot features and client capabilities enabled or configured by a global default policy, which affects which tools developers in their organization can access without per-feature changes.
Who should care
Engineering leads, IT administrators, and platform teams managing GitHub Copilot Business or Enterprise seats
What you can do
Review the global default Copilot policy settings in your GitHub organization or enterprise admin console and confirm they match your intended feature access before the rollout reaches your account.
