Vercel Data Cache is moving to Runtime Cache
Vercel is moving Data Cache out of beta into Runtime Cache, which Next.js fetch and unstable_cache will use on every version without code changes. Existing Hobby and Pro teams can opt in early starting October 30, 2026, and Vercel plans to migrate all teams on November 29, 2026.

Why it matters
Previously unbilled Data Cache reads and writes will be charged at Runtime Cache rates starting at $0.40 per million read units and $4.00 per million write units. Hobby includes 1M read and 200K write units free monthly; Pro draws from a $20 monthly infrastructure credit.
Who should care
Next.js developers, agencies, and online businesses on Vercel Hobby, Pro, or Enterprise plans using fetch caching or unstable_cache
What you can do
Review Data Cache usage in Observability and apply Vercel's optimization guide before migrating to cut unnecessary reads and writes.
